Class Notes
What does it mean to center Blackness in nations that historically marginalize it? What does time as a construct mean in relation to Blackness? In this course we survey a range of Black public writing to consider what publicness does to Blackness and learn more about how Black people communicate in various contexts. We will simultaneously think about how temporalities shape experiences of Blackness and the importance of history, context, and culture in fighting antiBlackness. Our treatment of Black time samples from North America, Africa, and the Caribbean broadly construed. Students will do short reflective responses, an autoethnographic activity, and a larger "mixing project," drawing on Black rhetorical tradition. The planned operational modality for this class is REMOTE.
