This CGS hybrid course combines web-based interaction and synchronous instruction. Students need to be available for virtual online meetings during designated class times and participate in asynchronous discussions and activities delivered through the CANVAS learning management system (LMS). Students must have reliable internet access to take this course. Students complete the course requirements within one term and move through the course materials as a cohort.
Todays public relations professionals need to understand and be competent in many forms of communication. The business world they work in is rapidly evolving with owned, paid and earned media converging. Media relations, social media content creation, influencer engagement, and earned media are now equally important for any organizations strategic communications. The role of the public and media relations practitioner has changed to reflect this shift. This course will focus on what defines the media: Who are they? What do they do? How do they get their stories? What tools are needed in todays media environment? You will learn how to best engage, connect and tell clients¿ stories and brand messages to a multitude of media outlets, using a wide variety of strategic multimedia tactics and methods. One critical skill both expected and developed in media relations is being able to write well, which the course will focus on.
