This course serves as the required introduction into the Urban Studies major or as a general course in the social sciences for the non-major. The course explores the problems and potentials of cities by combining the various disciplinary perspectives--economics, Africana studies, history, political science, sociology, and anthropology. Class Notes
This course serves as the required introduction into the Urban Studies major or as a general course in the social sciences for the non-major. The course, like the major, explores the problems and potential of cities by combining inter- disciplinary perspectives to evaluate the role of urbanization and urbanism in shaping contemporary life. Students gain a global perspective on these two interrelated processes through a combination of lectures, group and independent activities, and exposure to the canonical and emerging texts used by urban researchers. The planned operational modality for this class is REMOTE.
